Description: It was Lady Augusta Gregory who once described a girl as 'not... afraid to walk the whole world with herself'. Less than 100 years ago, Irish women were much confined to domestic spaces by law, by custom, by religion and by economic and social conditions. Much has changed since then, despite these limitations, and it is due to the relentless campaigns of women through several generations. This lecture will look at the last 100 years of activism by women, which has truly changed the island of Ireland for the better.
