Description: Guitarist Shane Hennessy will lead students through a boot camp covering Irish guitar style, from backing tunes to fingerstyle arrangement!

SESSION ONE – Backing Irish Traditional Music on guitar
- 4/4 time: Reels, Slow Reels, Hornpipes, Scottishe
- 6/8 time: Jigs
- 9/8 time: Slip jigs
- 2/4 time: Polkas
- 3/4 time: Waltzes
- 12/8 time: Slides, Marches
- 7/8 time: Compound / Balkan tunes
- Free time: Slow Airs

- Using standard tuning
- Using DADGAD tuning
- Using DADADE tuning

- Understanding form in Irish Music

- Modern backing ideas (2 over 3 feel, moving the 1, drops, pushes & pulls)

SESSION TWO – Flatpicking Guitar: Irish Music, Bluegrass, and more
- Using a pulse
- Picking technique
- Using open strings vs fretted notes
- Intro to the CAGED system (i.e. “The invisible capo”)

SESSION THREE – Arranging Irish Music For Guitar & Intro To Fingerstyle Guitar
- The flatpicking arrangement style
- The fingerstyle arrangement style
- Intro to fingerstyle guitar: Thumb vs Finger Independence
- The classical finger attack vs the Claw finger attack

- Using alternate tunings to your advantage
