First, we’ll cover the Irish Civil War: The Anglo-Irish Treaty that ended the War of Independence was deeply controversial, leading quickly to a second armed conflict between those who supported the treaty and those who opposed it. Second, we’ll cover the split in Irish soccer governance: In June 1921, a group of representatives from soccer clubs in Leinster gathered in Dublin to form a new governing organization that would challenge the Belfast-based Irish Football Association. Third, we’ll cover long-lasting insecurities in the north: At several points following partition, actions taken by the southern government were a source of concern for the northern population, and that insecurity showed itself in multiple forms.
