Description: In this cosy workshop, you will learn the history of Aran Knitting & begin to craft traditional Aran knitwear through an Aran scarf knitting project. Introducing advanced cabling methods, this workshop is suitable for intermediate knitters who can cast-on, knit, and purl confidently. The workshop is a fantastic introduction to both cable knitting techniques & traditional Irish design. Aran cable knitting originated off the west coast of Ireland within the boundaries of its namesake home, the Aran Islands – a neat group of Gaeltacht isles nestled in the cold, restless waters of the Atlantic; their history long, rich & holding tight to an Irish-speaking status to this day. It is here that the ‘Aran Jumper’ hails from, this notable knitwear incorporating the very techniques this course will pass on to you. Aran hand-knitting has unfortunately fared less well in this modern world, seeing a decline that demands attention. In the spirit of preserving and promoting a niche piece of Irish heritage, this experience aims to share this longstanding hand-knitting technique. Participants will lead the history of Aran knitting and Irish wool, as well as advanced cabling techniques and three traditional aran stitch patterns in depth.

-140g of Irish Galway Wool Yarn (DK Weight)
-4mm/US size 6 knitting needles (flat or round are both suitable)
